David Hamilton: 25 Years of an Artist
Hamilton's work is chronicled in this volume and showcases his love affair with his subjects and his passion for photography.
His work is very sensual and innocent, which considering the bulk of his subject matter (pubescent females) is somewhat daring, but never crosses the line to lecherous. The quality of the printing is excellent, and it is an enjoyable collection

Interesting Collection of his Work
The book has photos spanning David Hamilton's career as well as a bit of an auto-biographical essay of his life and how he got into photographing beautiful young models.

The pictures include nude models as well as subjects like flowers, landscapes, and personal photos.

My complaints about the book is that the pictures are usually too small to be appreciated and the quality of the post-production is not top class. Though there are many nice photos, it does not justify the work of the photographer.

Nonetheless Hamilton's books are hard to find and always go out of print. Overall, it is worth buying.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
This book is a masterpiece! Everything about it is just plain beautiful. I can't believe that Hamilton ever had problems with these incredible pictures that he has taken. And that takes us back to what is art? and what is pornography? It seems that in this country, people tend to believe that if a girl is under the age of 18 and nude, it is pornography. Hamilton has proved them wrong. If it is legal for familys, which do in a lot of cases include young girls and teenage girls, to go to nudist colonies or be naturists, where they are nude three fourths of the time, why is it not right for someone to capture this beautiful lifestyle on film?

The female body, at any age is a very beautiful thing, and not many people will let themselves admit this. I find it especially beautiful when the girls are at the brink of womanhood, and there bodies are changing. Why is it so hard to find this stunning for people???

You will find portraits of everything in this book, from swimming, to sleeping, to just plain stand up posing for the camera. Also, this book includes other works of Hamilton. Works like nature etc.

In one word, this book is Beautiful, and so is Hamilton, for doing something that very few people can do. That is to realize that there is natural beauty in everyone, and he photographed it.

The ONE girl book to OWN!
There are a lot of books that contain nude artfull pictures of girls by several top photographers available to choose from. But if you had to choose only ONE to own, this would definitely be the book to buy!Because:(1) VALUE: This book has TRIPLE the pages and photographs of the other books for only about 10-15 dollars more. So thus you get a tremendous page-per-dollar value!(2) QUALITY: Many of the pictures are in color. Most of the other books only have black and white pictures. The pictures are very sharp and very high in quality..they leap off the page! (3) COMMENTARY: Aside from the great pictures, this book also contains several pages of a very informational introduction and commentary. It is nice to read some narration to put the subject matter and pictures in proper perspective.(4) BEAUTIFULL: The girls are very cute and beautifull. A wide age range is represented from 8-18. Even the pictures of the girls clothed are stunning, sexy, and beautifull. The nude girls are very tastefully presented as to not offend or risk censorship. This book used to be banned in some countries, and I think it still is banned in some areas of the world. I have seen this book priced in the hundreds of dollars when it first went out of print years ago.What more can i possibly say about this book? You get the most bang for the buck...you get top quality color and black and white pictures of very fine cute sexy beautifull girls 8-18 posing nude and semi-nude....and most important of all BUY THIS BOOK BEFORE IT GOES OUT OF PRINT! I have noticed that several books by Jock Sturges and David Hamilton are no longer either offered in Hard Cover edition or NOT AT ALL! Censorship control is placing pressure on book suppliers I guess, so quickly BUY THIS BOOK!

Teenage beauty
I saw this book some years ago. There's a window in life when everyone is at their visual peak. David Hamilton seems to specialize in presenting that time for teenage girls. Virtually taboo to talk about such stuff except in private. The photos are like still-lifes. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I tend to feel more comfortable with nudist/naturist stuff that doesn't lean in the direction of erotica. If anyone reading wants to see true innocence, I found an Amazon DVD called FKK Workout shot in Europe. Nudist mothers and daughters enjoying a day together in the gym including aerobics. I can't imagine such comfort in the nude for 50+ women, teenage girls and pre-teen girls happening in the U.S. A treasure of a video.

Beautifuly but Hazy
Hamilton's famous 'haze look' is clearly evident, many of his subjects poses are one dimensional. I experienced many mixed emotions upon viewing this work. On one hand, Hamilton definitely is a very talented photographer. Other photographers have borrowed his ideas and techniques. However, the book is really more about his artistic technique with a camera than about the beauty of his subjects. I purchased this along with another book on Amazon, "Holy Nature: A Celebration of Naturism". Both books are created by photographers who seek to capture the beauty of the nude and nature. However, in the Holy Nature book, you can the photography is clear and the prints large and in color. You are seeing the beauty of the female nudes and their surroundings. In this book the beauty is often obscured by a blurry or hazy black and white image.

Lacking in substance
this book has been way over hyped, and how other reviewers can give it 4 or 5 stars is a mystery. and as far as sharing it with your children, dont bother. the work is a total wreck because somebody in the edit room took scissors to the photos and cropped the heck out of what could have been nice frames. why did they crop the photo's taking nearly all of the image of the subject away? the intent of the book, expressions of that time in a young womans life have been multilated with down-sizing the picture's frame, as if they were ashamed to show the human figure here. the book is a dissapointment, and I cant honestly recommend it. as well, the final closing of the book was rather dis-tasteful, cheaping and degrading the spirit of how the book is marketed. the sleazy ending made the entire experience worthy of the fireplace. the text, rather borish and ill suited as if an amateurish attempt to add some style to the already cropped and meaningless photos. dont bother with this work.

Too much photo cropping
The reputation of Hamilton suggested that this would be a valuable book on the subjects of his photography. While the quality of the paper and the printing was excellent, the photos fell short of what I had expected.
There was far too much cropping of the photos, leaving out too much of the photo image. That was very disappointing. The artistic presentation and the verses for each photo were excellent.

Next time, show the complete subject of the photo - - - don't cut off so much.

Girl erotica
This is a sweet book of erotica from 1972, a la Jock Sturges' "Last Day of Summer," featuring two lovely young women in states of Victorian nudity. Long-haired, willowy, pretending to innocence, backlit, these young women look around 19 years old. The "Sisters" title is obviously meant suggestively, as is the poetic text by Alain Robbe-Grillet. They ride bicycles in filmy dresses, recline nude in the windows of Italian villas, sit with knees up on a stone wall to show their Victorian drawers, show each other rather a lot of gentle physical affection. Tastefully done.

The Best of David Hamilton
What is there not to like about David Hamilton's photography? "The Best of..." doesn't begin to cover the breadth of his art, but is an excellent taste of his work. It captures the beauty of nature, youth, maturity, eroticism, sensuality, thought,humor, curiosity, tranquility through the eyes of his lenses, and his own stylistic interpretation. "The Best of...." is, in a phrase, relaxation for the eyes.

Beautiful but disappointed
One area in photography that is rarely seen is teenagers in the nude. David Hamilton's specialty it seems. As gorgeous as his photography is in La Danse, I had been expecting more nudity. That said, I know the photographer is known for far more than photos of teenage girls lounging around naked. Plenty of still-lifes of nature. For those who were a mite disappointed like me, I recommend an Amazon DVD I found called FKK Workout. No erotica but nudist mothers and daughters spending an hour in the gym together including aerobics. All in the buff. Mothers, some college girls, teenage girls and pre-teen girls. Beautiful to check out. Shot in Europe. I can't imagine finding this going on in the good ol' U.S. of A.

My book was great and i liked that it had the original lable on the cover. I was surprised when i discovered the cds inside. Im sure the seller kept it it good shape. Im a big fan of david hamilton and jock sturges. I enjoy their photography. They do very good work.i will be looking for more of their books in the future. Thank you for your help getting this.

exploitation
I own both the original and the new edition of this book, gifts given to me as I love ballet photographs.
This book has some nice pictures, but I don't think Hamilton is a particularly gifted photographer, AND... in the new edition there are many nudes of young girls which I find disturbing.
Now, I'm a fan of the work of Sally Mann and Lewis Carroll (and Lolita is my favorite novel), so this isn't coming from someone afraid of child sexuality. Quite the contrary! But I am a feminist and one has to trust the photographer to be doing nudes for the right reasons. Hamilton's photos are not natural- a ballet dancer isn't going to be naked like this for any reason (for example, a photo of a totally nude girl getting her hair braided by a clothed friend...bizarre). He obviously staged these photos and they seem very odd and exploitative.
Then there are the random photos of Nureyev and other male dancers (obvious that Hamilton isn't as interested in male bodies by the way he photographs them!!), so overall the work doesn't gel much, and it isn't even much of a book of dance photographs, it just seems that the models happen to be wearing dance clothing.
All in all, not a book worth buying either for its subject matter or the technical quality of the photographs. Made me feel a little dirty looking at them. Blech! Definitely don't buy this book if you want a ballet gift for your dancing daughter.

La Danse by David Hamilton
A beautiful book with the impressionistic photography of David Hamilton. The main dance of the book is ballet, a rather nawor focus these days. Featured are mostly young, female dancers, but there are also shots of Nureyev and a few other male dancers. Finally, it differs from other David Hamilton books by featuring mostly fully-clothed dancers.
