Description
Gilbert & George are among the foremost artists of their generation. A collaborative team, they were early to explore performance as an art form, and early to explore the idea that every aspect of daily life could be classed as such. They were early to mingle photography and graphics in a style reminiscent of advertising, and early to address sexual identity in that work. In fact, they were early to do much that viewers now take for granted. Their work has been exhibited worldwide since the beginning of the 1970s, and is either unusually accessible or completely unpalatable, depending on the viewer's mindset. It has attracted both fierce controversy and enormous acclaim, including the 1986 Turner Prize and the U.K.'s slot at the 2005 Venice Biennale. At last, on the fortieth anniversary of their meeting (September 25, 1967, Saint Martin's, London) and on the eve of a major retrospective that will tour six venues around the world-including Tate Modern, the Brooklyn Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum and the de Young Museum in San Francisco-here is a book that does justice to the scale, depth and ambition of their artistic achievement. Or rather, here are two books: designed and produced by the artists, this luxurious two-volume hardback set, which comes in a customized carrying case with handles, documents every picture the pair has created over the course of their 35-year career. With details and installation views of many significant pieces, it includes 1500 color illustrations. The Complete Pictures will be the most thorough and extensive publication on the artists' work ever assembled. Copublished with Tate Publishing, London.

Description
Nearly four decades of original, subversive, and beautiful Postcard Art is collected in this magnificently packaged two volume set designed by Gilbert & George. Gilbert & George have carved a permanent place in the modern art world. Their enormous oeuvre comprises everything from Living Sculptures, Film/Videos to their large scale Pictures, and confronts all aspects of the human condition with characteristic honesty and clarity. Their Postcard Art is a representation of the themes that have occupied their art for nearly four decades. This ingeniously packaged two-volume set illustrates in color all 1,004 new and vintage Postcard Pictures, most of which have not been previously catalogued or exhibited. Volume One covers the period from 1972 - 1989, in groups composed of varying arrangements and romantic and historic subjects and begun shortly after Gilbert & George achieved recognition in the art world. The second volume collects a new and as yet unseen group of 564 Postcard Pictures known as The Urethra Postcard Pictures; - a uniformly formatted series soon to be the subject of a world exhibition tour. Each volume is introduced with a perceptive essay by the cultural critic Michael Bracewell, who explains the significance of this art form in the context of the artists' work. Ordered around the Union Flag, landscapes, celebrity, royalty, prostitution, tourist destinations, and other concerns, this collection compiles a crucial but largely unseen component of the artists' important contribution to contemporary art.

Description
For the first time Gilbert & George open up and talk at length to the public. In this extraordinarily revealing book, two of the world's most controversial contemporary artists, who have dubbed themselves 'living sculptures', explain and defend their views and actions. These freewheeling conversations are the fruit of over ten years of friendship with the critic Francois Jonquet, and are distilled from an intensive series of unprecedentedly frank interviews. Candid and uninhibited, Gilbert & George provide a highly entertaining insight into their unique lifestyle, and give a robust exposition of their views on art, life, sex, money, religion and race. Equally revealing are the many illustrations of Gilbert & George's provocative and controversial works of art. Despite their notoriety, Gilbert and George have always been reluctant to speak publicly, and have only occasionally published manifestos or given interviews, many of which were collected into a volume published in 1997. However, over the last ten years they have developed a close friendship with the Paris-based author and critic, Francois Jonquet, and have held with him a long series of interviews in which they have been wil

Description
This major new monograph on the internationally renowned artists Gilbert & George provides a fascinating insight into their lives and work.
Since first meeting in the St Martin's School of Art in 1967 while studying sculpture, the two artists have become inseparable, living and working together in their home in London's East End.
All their work is based on the idea that they are Living Sculptures, that is, the artwork and they themselves are ultimately one and the same. They have exhibited across the globe, including Europe, the Americas, China and Russia. The book contains selected examples of their oeuvre including 'singing sculptures', 'postcard art' and their large photographic-based works which they call 'Pictures', together with an incisive introductory overview and an interview. Also included are examples of their working drawings, their exhibition designs and plans, and some images from their personal social archives, many of which have never been published.
The artists have recently changed their studio methods to digital picture making, and the book includes imagery specially created for this publication.
The book forms part of a series that presents a critical appraisal of some of the most innovative and controversial contemporary artists in the world. Each book will contain an art historical appreciation of the artist's work and a substantial new interview with each artist, focusing on themes such as technique and working practice.
