Best and Easiest cook book I own !
I am an Italian Pastry Chef,(so you know I love food!) and a South Beach Success story after only 2 1/2 months ( a 30 lb loss)! in part because of the easy quick recipes in this book ..I have over 500 cook books of every kind ..I use this one daily and I am able to change it up a bit too ...you are not a slave to follow the recipes exact you can change ingredients (which are already probably in your cabinet!)or meats, or the veggies ..what ever to suit your own tastes ! well worth the money (which wasn't alot)and the food is lite and delicious and very filling ! I would definately reccommend this for anyone that loves lite easy cooking especially with summer coming !! Enjoy I have !

More than just a diet
The extra protein that you get with diet gave me significantly increased strength and endurance, as well as faster recovery time.
I have been working out since I was a teenager. I am 56 now, and had been feeling less energy, and having sore muscles in gym and after tennis.
I forgot how important protein is. This diet allows me to eat more!!
Love the recipes.

Great Cookbook for any diet.
It may be South Beach, but it's simply good healthy food. The recipes are simple and don't call for a lot hard to find ingredients. We've only tried 4 or 5 recipes but have enjoyed them all.

The verdict is in: those simple carbs we've been living on are killing us. For good health, we've got to get our blood sugar under control and stop the incessant cravings. Or so says Dr. Arthur Agatston, author of The South Beach Diet. The first half of the book details the science behind the diet. Most of the explanations revolve around why things you thought were healthy—-orange juice, wheat toast, carrots—-are actually evil. To avoid blood sugar surges, Agatston created a modified carbohydrate plan, recommending plenty of high-fiber foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while cutting bread, rice, pastas, and fruits. Major differences from other diets include a lack of concern over portion size and a serious indifference to exercise. Feeling full while on a diet is a beautiful thing, but it seems odd that a cardiologist buries his exercise recommendations in a solitary sentence. The last half of the book covers his three-stage plan; daily diets are mixed with recipes, some of which are from South Beach restaurant chefs. The most restrictive period lasts just two weeks, enough time to stabilize your urges and lose a few pounds; stage two adds fruits and a handful of other carbs, while stage three is meant to last the remainder of your life, with occasional lapses for white bread or birthday cake. While the diet is sound, the book could be better organized. The first half mixes scientific study with anecdote in a seemingly random way, while the mix of meal plans and recipes can be confusing. It's working
My husband and I started South Beach after a friend recommended it to us. We are starting Phase 2 today, and so far, during the two weeks of Phase 1, we've lost about 10 pounds each. I didn't think it would happen so quickly, but it did. We didn't even add exercise until the weight loss starting "slowing" around day 10. The cravings were bad occasionally, especially at the beginning. But, as long as you have permissible snacks on hand and you make sure to eat enough at meal times to leave you satisfied, it's doable. If I can do it, anyone can. I was completely addicted to chocolate, sugar, and ice cream.
The book is helpful, includes complete meal plans, menus, and more. We also bought the South Beach Diet Cookbook to go with it because I am a bit of a picky eater, so we knew having more options for meals was the best way to go for us. I don't now how long we'll be on Phase 2 and how much more weight we'll lose (we both would be happy with 10-15 pounds more), but this book has changed the way we eat and shop and view food.

My original order...
My original order was lost in the mail and I found out later, it was returned by the Post Office due to damage (no fault of vendor). Once I informed them that I never rec'd my first shipment, they immediately send out a 2nd one, but unfortunately they did not send that 2nd one via a faster shipping method so that I would get it asap. I have now rec'd the 2nd shipment and am totally satisfied with my purchase. However I was disappointed that they didn't send the 2nd one quicker to compensate for the almost-3-week-delay I had already experienced. I would buy from this vendor again. Their profits go to a good cause.

The South Beach Diet:
Yes, this will work if you do it the way it is written. Because I have IBS and Lactose Intolerence and foods that cause gas, IS a major problem. After five days and a lose of six pounds, I had to change from the day to day food plan. I now pick what I can eat without causing problems for me.
Gone from 253lbs to 236lbs. And have never eat as well!!!
SO, this can work even if you can not follow the day to day food plans.
Yes try this book.

It works, but it's difficult
I really do like this book and I believe in the diet and eating healthier. However, the first 2 weeks are not only difficult to follow, but expensive! Produce isn't what it used to be and that's pretty much where you spend your time at the grocery store. Also, you cannot drink caffeine for the first 2 weeks and I'm a BIG coffee drinker. Switching to decaf wasn't that bad at first, but around the 3rd day or so, I started to get some pretty bad caffeine headaches. They don't really warn you about that. And not drinking ANY alcohol for 2 weeks? How realistic is that?! I'm no alcoholic, but at the end of a stressful day, I like to have a nice glass of wine. However, I did lose 3 lbs and 2% body fat within the frist 3 days. So... keep up with it, it is difficult at times and you do get hungry, but if you want to slim down and not TOTALLY starve yourself, this is the way to do it!

I'm not sure this book is really necessary for the South Beach Dieter. It is a list broken up by categories of foods and whether they are 'beachy' and what phase of the diet they are allowed on. You can find all this information on the website if you subscribe or in the South Beach Diet book. That said, it is certainly thorough and small enough to be convenient to take with you if you need reminders of "allowable foods".

Excellent reference for choosing the healthiest foods for your body, is completely revised and includes food not in the first book. For anyone seriously considering eating healthy and at the same time losing weight, this is your bible, to be read often. The Doctor who created this diet and reference book took in consideration, the heart patients and diebetics. I have been on this diet for 5 months, and have gone through a complete lifestyle change. I recommend this book to anyone, who will take the time to write a list of foods they enjoy from the list and then proceed to buy and implement them. You will benefit greatly from the purchase of this book.

From The South Beach Diet Super Quick Cookbook: Inside-Out Cheeseburgers These unique cheese-stuffed burgers feature flaxmeal, which is high in cholesterol lowering soluble fiber and heart-healthy alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). If you can only find whole flaxseed at the market, simply grind it into meal in a spice grinder or small coffee grinder. If you’re skipping the bun, just sprinkle a little balsamic on top of the tomato. Ingredients Hands-on time: 10 minutes, Total Time: 20 minutes
1 1/4 lbs lean ground turkey 1/2 cup flaxmeal (2 ounces) 1/2 small red bell pepper, finely diced 2 scallions, thinly sliced 6 tbsp reduced-fat soft goat cheese, preferably one flavored with herbs or garlic 3/4 tsp salt 4 tsp extra-virgin olive oil 4 very thin whole-wheat sandwich rolls (1.5 ounces each) split or 8 slices multigrain bread (optional) 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 4 thick slices tomato Bibb lettuce (optional)
Directions In a large bowl, combine the turkey, flaxmeal, bell pepper, scallions, 2 tablespoons of the goat cheese, and 1/2 teaspoon of the salt. Using your hands, blend well and form into 4 balls. Poke a hole into the center of each ball and stuff each with 1 tablespoon of the remaining goat cheese. Pinch the turkey mixture to seal in the cheese and gently form into 4 patties. Make them as flat as you can (to speed the cooking), taking care not to squeeze the cheese out. In a large nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Sprinkle the pan with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt. Reduce the heat to medium, add the patties, and cook until browned on 1 side, about 3 minutes. Turn the patties over and cook for 2 minutes longer. Add 1/4 cup water to the pan, reduce the heat to a high simmer, and cover. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, until the burgers are cooked all the way through. Meanwhile, lightly toast the sandwich rolls, if using. To serve, brush 1 side of each of 4 roll halves with the balsamic vinegar. Top with a burger, a tomato slice, lettuce (if using), and the other roll half.

South Beach Super Quick Cookbook is Super Good!
This is the third South Beach cookbook we have bought and the first e-cookbook. My husband and I enjoy trying new recipes. We loved the black bean brownies, we call them Beanies! As we were "flipping" through the pages of our ebook, we had a moment of disgust when we saw the title "Black Bean Brownies" in the dessert section, but we decided to give it a try. We haven't tried a South Beach food we haven't liked yet. They were great! Of course, you have to keep an open mind as these are healthier brownies than traditional ones.
If I had to do it again, I would personally buy the hard copy of the cookbook because I love to turn the pages and have the tangible feel of a book in my hands, but at $10 dollars for the ebook, it is well worth it!

Super Easy, Quick Recipes
Easy to follow recipes that are clearly marked as Phase 1/Phase 2 - recipes also include Phase 2 add ons to Phase 1 recipes. I don't feel like I'm "dieting" when eating many of these meals. Even the desserts are quite tasty.

Best diet ever!!
The South Beach Diet,
The best diet I have ever been on. It is reliable and I daily loose weight. Although, I find myself in the Kitchen a little too long. BUT IT IS WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Recipes are delicious and different. I bought this book to give to a friend. I have a copy already.
